postheadericon Seed of The Month Club With Mike The Gardener

I am getting ready to start planting seeds for my vegetable garden and I’m using the seeds I received from Mike The Gardener’s Seed of The Month Club. It’s so nice to get 4 packs of seeds each month. I look forward to them arriving shortly after the first of each month.

For April I received Carrots, Thyme, Cabbage and Peas

I’m building quite a collection of seeds. Here’s a picture I took of the seeds I am starting indoors to get ready for planting time.

2011 Vegetable Garden Seeds

Join Mike The Gardener’s Seed of the Month Club and start collection your vegetable garden seeds now. I collected all winter and have more than enough for this year’s veggie garden. We are also planning to continue with container gardening as well. It will be fun to see what I get growing in containers this year.

Each year our home garden grows and the more we want to garden.

I would say this is the most excited I’ve been since taking up vegetable gardening to save money on the grocery bills. We started out buying starter plants and seeds.

Then I joined Mike The Gardener Seed Club and now I get 4 packages of seeds in my mailbox each month. So about the first of each month I start getting excited to see what I get.

He has over 300 varietes of vegetable, herb and fruit seeds.

Here is an image I snapped after I sorted the seed packs, getting ready to plant them for starter plants in June. Very impressed.

Over the past day or two I started planting some of the seeds Mike sent me. I can tell already I’m going to have to increase the size of our vegetable garden.

I am also going to use the raised bed where I currently have strawberries. I do plan to transplant the strawberries to the south side of the yard where we get more sun.

I am going to plant zucchinni in that raised bed. Last year I planted our squash in the vegetable garden and they took up way too much space.

This year our vegetable garden will be more organized for better use of space.

So far the seed club seeds I have started are:

Peas – Beans – Corn – Zucchinni – Beets – Cabbage – Green Peppers

And over thenext next couple of days I will plant my herb garden seeds so we can have a herb container garden at the backdoor.

I’m planting Parsley, Basil, Oregano, Thyme and Dill and maybe a few more from seed I had left over last year.

Growing Giant Sunflowers

sunflowerLast year my guitar playing friend Peggy asked if I would plant a sunflower for her friend’s daughter as they don’t have a yard to plant things in. So of course I planted it.

I planted a few of my own sunflowers as well but decided that this year I would like to have a row of giant sunflowers behind the vegetable garden.

I was going to have to go out and buy some sunflower seeds but forgot about them. Then I got our regular reminder from our realestate guy Rick Crossman from Remax.

He usually sends us a package of forget-me-nots but this year he sent us sunflower seeds. That’s so cool but it gets better.

The next day I get my Mike The Gardener Seed Club seeds and found a package of giant sunflowers.

So now i am going to plant two rows. I will put Rick’s, the shorter ones in front of Mike’s giant sunflowers.

I started both packages of sunflower seeds yesterday.

An entertaining and insightful tag team effort from gardener & radio host Bob Webster & organic specialist & radio host Bruce Deuley. The subject is compost tea and how you can make a brewer yourself for less than . It was a bit chilly, but got pretty warm once the pavilion was filled to capacity. I had a laugh out loud moment when Bruce walked in (before I started filming) and was offered a compost tea handout by a nice lady (who didn’t know it was Bruce).
